Tạlk [über frz. talc u. span. talque zu arab. talq], der; -s, -e; Syn.: (als derbes Gestein:) ↑ Speckstein farbloses oder weißes, grünliches, gelbliches bis bräunliches, blättrig krist. sehr weiches Mineral (Phyllosilicat). Pulverisierter T. (Talkum), der sich fettig anfühlt, wird als Trennmittel, Gleitmittel, Füllstoff, Adsorbens u. Rohstoff für die Keramikherstellung benutzt.

[aus französisch talc, dies über spanisch talque von gleichbedeutend arabisch ṭalq] der, -(e)s, blassgrünes, weißes, gelbliches oder bräunliches, monoklines gesteinsbildendes Mineral der Zusammensetzung Mg3[(OH)2|Si4O10], ein Dreischichtsilikat; Härte nach Mohs 1, Dichte 2,7-2,8 g/cm3; Kristalle selten, meist schuppige, blättrige oder stängelige Aggregate, auch dichte, derbe Massen (Speckstein); Gemenge mit anderen Mineralen. Talk entsteht v. a. bei der hydrothermalen Zersetzung magnesiumreicher ultrabasischer Gesteine, durch Umwandlung von Olivin, Pyroxenen oder Amphibol (Talkfels oder -Schiefer), auch durch Kontaktmetasomatose an der Grenze zu Dolomiten. Talk fühlt sich fettig an und lässt sich leicht pulverisieren. Fein gemahlener Talk (Talkum, Talcum venetum) wird u. a. als Rohstoff zur Herstellung feuerfester Geräte, als Weißpigment und Füllstoff für Papier und Gummi, als Puderrohstoff sowie als Polier- und Gleitmittel (z. B. für Gummihandschuhe) verwendet.
